Summer Ops 2 - Silviculture Site Prep

Before a Forest Intelligence Service™ survey begins, Andrew Austin, Head of Silviculture, works with clients to establish the information needed for each project.

This begins with reviewing silviculture liability polygons, treatment history, harvest boundaries, renewal objectives, and applicable prescriptions provided by license holders. Survey eligibility, treatment timing, forest unit requirements, and operational constraints are confirmed before the field program is established.

The team then develops the project GIS database by cleaning and standardizing spatial data, verifying coordinate systems, generating Free To Grow (FTG) survey boundaries, allocating statistically appropriate plot locations, and configuring QGIS and QField projects with GNSS integration and quality assurance checks.

This preparation establishes the field program before survey crews are deployed.
