Automated
reforestation
Multi-modal planting technology and plant science working together to restore forests at scale.
Flash Forest combines automation, forestry science and a data-centric approach to reforestation at scale. With wildfires increasing in scale and severity each year, and tree planters getting harder to source, the supply for reforestation services cannot meet demand.

01
seed pods

Our proprietary seed pod technology provides a controlled micro-environment for every seed, maximizing establishment rates vs bare-seed planting and lowering costs vs manual tree planting.
Custom-designed seed pods engineered for automated deployment. Each pod contains a native seed and nutrients calibrated to boreal forest conditions. Pods protect seeds during impact, improve moisture rentention and support early root growth.

Pod Production

By leveraging automation and streamlined manufacturing, we’re able to mass produce over 2 million seedpod shells per day and seed over 800,000 per day.
This differentiates us from traditional tree planting as we can omit the energy-intensive nursery phase and slash the seedling preparation time from 2 years to a matter of months.
03
drone technology

Our custom heavy-lift drones have a payload of 70kg equipped with our patented deployment systems, which are able to embed our pods into the soil surface at a high velocity and a rate of 30+ pods per second.
Whether it's UAVs or helicopter, we deploy the right hardware for the terrain.
04
machine learning models
Rapid advances in machine learning, cloud computing and earth observation have enabled the development of machine learning approaches for optimizing reforestation planning.
Flash Forest has developed software that identifies areas best suited to reforestation in diverse geographies.
We use deep learning models for high resolution mapping of burned areas, as well as automated, cloud-based workflows capable of assessing physical, environmental and climate variables at scale.
By combining these methods with data on project success and seedling survival, we are developing predictive models for identifying optimal project areas and local planting locations.
05
field kits and Site Preparation
Pre-planting assessments determine species mix, density, and site treatment. Post-planting monitoring tracks germination and survival.
Each Field Unit Kit is equipped with everything needed to reforest a project site, including 2 to 3 heavy-lift planting drones + accessories, power generation, pod storage, 2 drone pilots, and 2 pod/ battery support hands.
